Ted and Mimi Sushinski founded South 40 Farm, Inc. 14 years ago. Ted loved horses as a small boy, and his dream was fulfilled when he had met Mimi, who began her life long dream at 5 years old when she had her first riding lesson. She has worked and owned horses all her life. Ted Sushinski passed away in 2005.
Over 60 years later, Mimi is still providing English and Western riding lessons for children and adults. Pony Parties are one of her very favorites. The youngest party was for a 1-year old, and the oldest was for an 83 year old who had always wanted to ride a horse, but never had a chance. She has really lived her life long dream. Not a lot of people can say that.
South 40 Farm has qualified Instructors teaching lessons to all ages. Anyone is welcome to come and visit by appointment only. Upon visiting South 40 Farm, you will see a variety of horse breeds, ponies, miniature horses, and even Sir Bentley, a Clydesdale, who was their first horse and, now retired, happens to be the farm's mascot. You will always find children laughing, smiling, and enjoying themselves. Adult friends chatting, chinese pug dogs (which Mimi breeds) running in the yard, and two barn cats wandering around. It is a warm family atmosphere where one can bond with the animals and enjoy the company of good friends of all ages. We have children who ride and show for fun and others who have competed at Grand Prix level with great results in both categories. We are not a fancy barn but can compete with anyone and have fun doing it. Safety is our first precaution at South 40 Inc.
If one of our riders has a horse, we do board it at the farm. Lots of trail rides are also offered to qualified riders. We are walking distance to Hibernia Park for a 2-3 hour ride. The Coatesville Reservoir is a beautiful ride in the Spring or Fall, as a matter of fact, any time. All these above are great stress relievers at any age. Some come on out and give us a try!
